Dollar Tree Plate Makeover: DIY Fall Scarecrow Wall Art

I love turning ordinary plates into decorative wall art, so I couldn’t resist another plate craft! For this project, I started with a plate from Dollar Tree.
Here are the paints I used to give the plate its warm, layered finish.
First, I mixed Apple Barrel Chestnut paint with a small dab of white to lighten the color, then painted the entire plate.
This is my base coat which I added two coats.
Once the base coat dried, I lightly dry-brushed DecoArt Metallic paint over the surface, highlighting the raised details.
After that layer dried, I dry-brushed Apple Barrel Nutmeg onto the plate to add warmth and depth.
Next, I turned the plate over and hot-glued a twine loop to the back for hanging. I added tape over the attachment points to help hold the twine in place.
Then, I gathered a selection of faux florals and Spanish moss for the arrangement.
I also found two little scarecrows that I thought would make charming additions to the fall display.
To give the arrangement dimension, I cut a piece of foam and wrapped it with twine to disguise it. Then, I added the florals and Spanish moss, building the arrangement outward from the plate.
For the finishing touch, I added a plaid bow and a flower to give the piece a polished look.
Here’s the finished project! A simple Dollar Tree plate is now a cheerful fall wall decoration filled with seasonal color and texture.
Great on your front door.
