I found this desktop drawer organizer at a thrift store and thought it would be a great piece to give a fresh new look.
I started by giving the entire drawer organizer a thorough cleaning to remove any dust, dirt, and grime.
For the outside of the drawer organizer, I decided to use this beautiful moss-colored chalk paint.
I painted the entire outside of the drawer organizer with the moss chalk paint, making sure to get even coverage.
This is how the drawer organizer looked after two coats of paint. I really liked how the moss color completely changed the look of the piece.
Next, I pulled out this Behr maroon paint to add a contrasting color to the drawers.
I painted the inside of each drawer with the maroon paint.
The drawers needed two coats of paint for good coverage, and this is how they looked once the paint was completely dry.
Next, I used this decorative rub-on transfer that I purchased from Amazon.
I cut the transfer into the pieces I wanted and carefully positioned them on the fronts of the drawers.
Once I was happy with the placement, I rubbed the transfers onto the drawer fronts, making sure each design was completely transferred before removing the backing.
Then, I added more of the decorative transfer to the inside of the drawers…
for an unexpected little detail.
For the larger drawer, I chose a larger section of the transfer to better fit the space.
I decided to also paint the sides of the drawers maroon. This added another pop of color and helped tie the entire look together.
Next, I added these inexpensive knobs that I found at Home Depot. They were an easy and affordable way to finish off the makeover.
And here is the finished product! I love how the moss green and maroon colors work together with the decorative transfers. This simple thrift store drawer organizer now has a completely new look and plenty of character.
