If you love turning thrift store finds into beautiful home decor, this easy silver platter upcycle is a must-try. With just a few simple supplies, you can transform an inexpensive piece into elegant seasonal decor—perfect for Easter or spring styling.

This project is beginner-friendly, budget-conscious, and gives new life to something that might otherwise be overlooked.

A top-down view of a circular, reflective silver tray or plate resting on a dark surface. The tray features a wide, polished outer rim and a large central area decorated with an intricate, etched floral and scrollwork pattern. The metallic surface shows soft highlights and reflections from overhead lighting.
I found this silver platter at my local Goodwill store.
A close-up, overhead shot shows a person’s hand resting on a white, textured cloth, which is draped over the same ornate silver tray. The fingers and fingernails appear wet or glossy, as if treated with oil or water. The intricate floral etchings of the metallic tray are visible in the background, partially obscured by the thin, bunched fabric.
First, I removed all the tags and thoroughly cleaned the platter using soap and water.
A close-up, overhead shot shows a person’s hand using a yellow scraper tool on the surface of a polished silver tray. The tray features an intricate, etched floral and scrollwork pattern that is partially covered by a thin, translucent layer of white residue or paint being removed. The metallic surface reflects soft light, highlighting the texture of both the engravings and the material being scraped away.
Next, I lightly sanded the surface to help the paint adhere better.
A close-up, overhead shot shows a wide paintbrush with thick primer on its bristles, resting on a reflective gold or brass-rimmed circular tray. A pool of wet white paint is spread across the center of the tray's surface. In the blurred background, the edge of a blue and white primer can is visible. The lighting creates bright highlights on the metallic rim and the wet primer
I then applied two coats of primer, allowing each coat to dry completely.
A white bottle of Waverly Inspirations Chalk Acrylic Paint in "Snow White" sits on a white paper plate with purple and blue floral designs. The label features the brand name in large letters above a teal banner with the word "chalk." The bottle contains 8 fl. oz. (236ml) and specifies a matte finish with no preparation required.
For the base color, I chose Waverly Snow White chalk paint.
A close-up, overhead shot shows a person’s hand using a round, yellow sponge pouncer to apply white paint to a smooth, off-white surface. The sponge is partially covered in wet white paint and is being pressed down by a wooden handle. The surface shows faint, textured brushstrokes and patterns in the underlying material.
Instead of using a brush, I used a sponge to apply the paint to avoid visible brush strokes.
An overhead shot shows a plain, matte white circular plate resting on two weathered wooden planks. The planks are splattered with multi-colored paint and positioned vertically against a black background. The plate has a wide rim and a recessed center with a subtle fine-grained texture. Lighting is even, casting soft shadows beneath the plate's edges.
I applied two coats of the white paint for full coverage.
A retail package contains two decorative bunny transfers and a application tool. The top image shows a brown bunny sitting inside a green leafy wreath. The bottom image features a similar bunny nestled among purple lavender sprigs. A bright yellow plastic scraper tool with a wooden handle lies diagonally across the right side of the package, all visible through a clear plastic protective film.
For the design, I selected a set of beautiful bunny transfers to place in the center of the platter.
A decorative white plate features a centered illustration of a brown rabbit nestled within a wreath of green leaves and yellow flowers. Above the rabbit, the word "WELCOME" is printed in an elegant black cursive font. Muted green eucalyptus-style branches extend from the left and right edges of the plate's wide rim, creating a cohesive spring or Easter-themed design.
The bunny was place in the middle along with some greenery on the sides.
A bottle of DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic Metallic paint in a gold shade stands upright on a dark, textured surface. The bottle has a white flip-top cap and a label featuring the brand name and the word "Metallic" in large, stylized font. A thin paintbrush with a reddish-brown handle lies horizontally behind the bottle, slightly out of focus.
To enhance the overall look, I decided to incorporate a touch of gold.
A high-angle, extreme close-up shows the curved rim of a white decorative plate. The surface has a noticeable matte, chalky texture with fine stippling. The very edge of the rim is accented with a thin, irregular border of metallic gold paint. In the lower-left corner, a portion of the word "WELCOME" is visible in elegant, black cursive lettering. The background is a solid, dark brown.
I carefully painted gold detailing around the rim of the platter.
A close-up, overhead shot shows a bottle of Mod Podge Gloss sitting behind a white decorative plate. The plate's surface has a subtle, linen-like texture and features a decal of green eucalyptus leaves. The edge of the plate is finished with a thin, metallic gold rim. The background is a solid dark surface, focusing the viewer on the crafting materials and the botanical design on the plate.
I decoupage the entire platter.
An overhead shot of a single, light-colored wooden plate stand or easel leg lying on a dark, textured surface. The wood has a visible grain and a curved, decorative "S" shape. A small, square pink price tag is stuck to the center of the wooden piece. The dark background is dusted with fine white particles or splatters, creating a speckled appearance.
I also found this plate easel at the Goodwill store.
A decorative white plate with a gold-rimmed edge sits upright on a light wooden easel. The center features an illustration of a brown rabbit surrounded by a floral wreath, with the word "WELCOME" printed in black cursive above it. Sprigs of green eucalyptus leaves decorate the top, bottom, and sides of the plate's wide rim. The plate is displayed on a dark surface against a cluttered workshop background.
This is the finished product.
A decorative white plate sits on a wooden easel on a dark wood side table. The plate features a brown rabbit illustration in a floral wreath with "WELCOME" in cursive above it. To the left is a white lamp with a green floral shade; to the right, a white vase holds white roses. The background shows a pale green wall and a cream armchair with a green throw.
A perfect display.
