I picked up these cigar boxes for free from a local smoke shop. They were the perfect starting point for a creative makeover!
As you can see, both boxes had plenty of stickers on the inside and outside.
I used my heat gun to gently warm the stickers and loosen the adhesive, making them easier to peel away.
Next, I gave both cigar boxes a thorough cleaning.
The boxes had a few deep scratches, so I filled those areas with wood filler.
For this project, I chose Waverly Crimson paint.
I started with the larger cigar box, painting the entire box in Crimson.
Here is how it looked after two coats.
I found these beautiful floral decoupage papers on Amazon.
I applied the floral paper to the inside of the box using decoupage medium.
Next I took my micro sander to remove the extra paper.
For the lid, I added this decorative bird transfer.
Here is how the larger box look with the transfer on.
It still needed a little something, so I chose a wooden cutout from my craft supplies and attached it to the front.
Here is the finished larger cigar box!
Next, I turned my attention to the smaller cigar box. For this one, I chose a white exterior.
The smaller box needed two coats of white paint.
Here is how it looked after painting.
I took the same Waverly Crimson paint.
Painted the inside of the box.
For the lid decoration, I selected these cardinal bird stamps and a red ink pad. I stamped the bird design onto the top of the cigar box.
Then, I used a crackle stamp and a black ink pad to add a decorative crackle pattern.
This is what it look like with stamps on the top of the box.
The lid would not stay completely closed.
So I found a small latch on a Dollar Tree wooden box in my craft stash.
I removed the latch from that box and attached it to my cigar box.
The box still needed another detail, so I decided to add stripes using Waverly Crimson. I taped off the areas where I wanted the stripes.
Here is how the cigar box looked with the stripes added.
To give the box a little height, I chose drawer pulls to use as feet and painted them white.
Then, I attached them to the bottom of the cigar box with hot glue.
Inside the lid, I added this wooden cutout bird embellishment.
And here is the finished smaller cigar box!
Clear coat sealer was added to both boxes.
Here are the two completed cigar boxes together.

These boxes would make lovely bathroom organizers…
or a special place to keep treasured belongings.
