I started with a simple white arch frame from Dollar Tree just the basics, but full of potential.
The first step was removing the glass and backing so I could completely transform the piece.
The paint that was used for this project.
I grabbed my black paint and gave the entire frame a solid coat.
Once it dried, I brushed silver paint lightly over the raised areas, letting the black peek through for a distressed, vintage finish.
Next, I focused on the backing. I painted it a warm cream color to give the image a soft, antique feel.
For the artwork, I used a bird stamp featuring two cardinals.
Then, to add a rustic, aged effect, I used a crackle stamp.
Using red ink, I stamped the birds onto the cream background. For the crackle stamp I used black ink and lightly pressed it around the edges. It gave the perfect weathered look without overwhelming the image.
I wanted a little Christmas charm, so I chose a garland mold to place below the cardinals.
I painted the garland silver, highlighted the berries in red, and added a touch of light brown to the acorns for contrast.
To complete the design, I pulled out a “Merry Christmas” sign and a few snowflake molds.
I painted everything silver again, tying it together with the frame, and added pops of red on the tiny berries. Then later lightly brushed a little red over the Merry Christmas sign.
Once everything dried, I assembled the frame. The final piece has a beautiful vintage Christmas vibe with shimmering silver, warm cream tones, weathered details, and two bright red cardinals at the center.
