I began by gathering twelve of the small wooden crates from Dollar Tree. These little crates are the perfect size for creating a multi-tiered treat display.
To assemble the display, I hot glued the crates together in rows, making sure everything was aligned and sturdy. Then I attached the entire crate section to two long wooden boards on each side to give it strength and height.
To give the piece a warm Christmas feel, I decided to paint everything in a beautiful crimson red.
Two full coats brought the color to life and covered the wood perfectly.
After the paint dried, this is how the display looked so far, bright, cheerful, and ready for some holiday embellishments.
I wanted a Christmas accent on the front, so I pulled out three molds: a wreath, a small garland for the top, and a ribbon.
After molding the clay pieces, I let them dry completely. Once dry (not shown here), I painted the wreath and garland green, the ribbon red, and the berries red for a classic holiday look.
I found these mini chalkboard tags at Dollar Tree. I removed the clothespins from the back, leaving just the flat tag.
Using a white paint pen, I hand labeled each one with the names of the treats I planned to add.
Once the paint dried, I hot glued the chalkboard tags to the front of each crate so everything would be easy to identify.
Before filling the crates, I lined any sections holding unwrapped treats with plastic wrap. Even when trimmed down, a little may show—but it’s important! You never want to place unwrapped food directly inside painted wood.
After everything was prepped, I added the treats, cookies, cocoa packs, candy canes spoons, marshmallows, and whatever festive goodies you love. You can completely customize this part to fit your holiday theme.
