I discovered this charming horse music box at Goodwill and knew it had amazing potential.
When I set it down, I noticed it leaned to one side so I added small wood shims underneath to balance it perfectly.
I grabbed my metallic gold paint, ready to give this piece a magical new beginning.
But before the gold could shine, I painted the entire music box white to create a clean, bright base then brushed on that beautiful gold layer.
I gently wiped back the gold, allowing hints of the white to peek through for a soft, vintage glow.
Here’s how the makeover looked at this point.
Next, I reached for my Waverly Truffle paint to add warmth and depth.
I brushed the Truffle over the whole piece, then wiped it back to let the sculpted details come alive.
Nutmeg was my next color, layering it across the music box and wiping away the extra to build that aged, timeworn charm.
Here’s the progress so far rich texture starting to show beautifully.
These are the paints I used for the next stage of detailing.
I began carefully painting the little features I wanted to highlight those tiny areas that bring personality to the piece.
Once the details dried, I brushed Dixie Belle black wax over the entire music box to deepen the shadows and give it that antique finish.
This is what it looked like after the wax full of character and dimension.
To dress it up for Christmas, I pulled out some decorative molds.
I chose a wreath, a bow, a pair of bells, and two little gift boxes to wrap around the base.
Each mold was painted in classic Christmas colors reds, greens, and golds to bring festive charm.
I finished the entire piece with a protective topcoat, and here is my beautifully transformed Christmas music box.
